POSITION SUMMARY:

Perform a wide variety of building maintenance activities to maintain and improve the functioning and appearance of county buildings and facilities including plumbing, electrical, structural, painting, plastering, light construction on county buildings and facilities, electrical wire installation, and appliance repair.  General maintenance of heating and cooling systems,

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide maintenance on plumbing, electrical lighting and infrastructure, structural, heating and cooling systems, paint, plaster, appliances and other areas that generally fall under the responsibility of facility maintenance.
  • Perform light construction and installations to include plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling systems, appliances and furniture, and other functions that generally fall under the responsibility of facility maintenance.
  • Clean buildings to include gathering and disposing of trash; stripping, waxing, and buffing floors; and steam cleaning carpets.
  • Move furniture, boxes and other materials as needed.
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Adherence to all policies and procedures of Somervell County.

ADDITIONAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set up and remove tables and chairs for events.
  • Install and remove decorations and lights.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of a valid Texas Driver’s license.
  • Basic math skills and reading and comprehension skills sufficient to understand and interpret technical manuals and instructions.
  • Ability to understand and comprehend verbal directions and communicate orally with supervisor and co-workers.

 

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This job requires the ability to perform and maintain physical activity including, but not limited to, lifting, carrying, or moving objects in excess of 50 lbs, pulling, pushing, digging, crawling, climbing, kneeling, squatting, sitting/driving, maintaining balance while on ladders; finger, hand, wrist and arm strength and dexterity necessary to utilize tools for extended periods of time.  This job also requires the ability to work at heights such as tops of two-story buildings or higher.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

Environments and conditions include indoors and outdoors; extremes of hot and cold; working in confined spaces; exposure to noise, dirt, dust, and various chemicals and cleaning compounds.
